BID sponsors Flora Gardens Primary School gallery visit to view local owned art

In support of Hammersmith & Fulham council’s arts strategy, HammersmithLondon BID sponsored a recent trip for pupils of Flora Gardens Primary School, to view the LBHF’s Cecil French Bequest collection on display at the Watts Gallery in Guilford.

Cecil French was a Dublin-born artist who trained at the Royal Academy Schools and subsequently settled in Fulham. When he died in 1953, he left a collection which includes Pre-Raphaelite and Post-Romantic art to what was then the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham and is now the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

The council has established a partnership with Watts Gallery to restore a number of works from the Cecil French Bequest and the Year 6 pupils of Flora Gardens Primary were able to find out more about the collection and take part in a workshop inspired by their trip.

The BID supports the council’s vision of developing Hammersmith into a cultural destination for people to participate in and enjoy the arts.  By introducing children and younger people into the arts, visits like the one to Watts Gallery will stimulate their imagination and ambition by giving them exposure to forms of art they would otherwise be unlikely to access.
