I Love Lunch winners celebrate win with a visit from the Mayor

This June, the winners of this year’s I Love Lunch competition were visited by the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham who presented them with their awards.

The I Love Lunch competition organised by the BID, celebrates the best places to eat lunch in Hammersmith.  This May, almost 4,000 votes were cast across 4 categories as the public championed their favourite pub, café, restaurant and on-the-go outlet.

The first visit by the Mayor, Daryl Brown was to Coco di Mama, who serve fast, fresh Italian inspired food.  Coco di Mama opened in the Broadway Shopping Centre in early 2018 and Manager Alberto Zorzi felt that the competition provided an opportunity to raise their profile in the area and encourage the public to try their food.  Alberto was both surprised and thrilled to win the prize for Best On-the-Go outlet and expressed his joy upon meeting the Mayor as he told her about the concept behind the menu and the story about the unique hand-painted mural that adorns Coco di Mama’s wall.

The next visit was to StreetEATS, winner of Best Café 2018 whose menu is inspired by street food from around the globe.

Visiting the café during a busy lunch period, a queue of customers surrounded the entrance of the popular café on Hammersmith Broadway.  As they patiently waited for their handmade lunch, one regular customer told the BID about how much he enjoyed the food at StreetEATS and had shown his support by voting.  This was owner Michael Charlton’s third win in a row and he was delighted to win the award, happily posing for photos with his hat-trick of awards.

Winners of Best Restaurant, Leon, located in the Broadway Shopping Centre serve healthy food inspired by the flavours, variety and natural healthiness of Mediterranean cooking. During the visit, Manager Natasha introduced the Mayor to the team and thanked her team and the customers for their support.

Winning for the second year in a row was the Hammersmith Ram pub on King Street.  On arriving the pub, the Mayor was impressed with the airy and vibrant décor of the pub, commenting on the greenery that adorned the outdoor area.

The Mayor presented the award to the team at the Hammersmith Ram who proudly displayed the award for all to see. After the presentation, the Mayor and the BID had the opportunity to try the award-winning food, dining on a traditional lunch of fish and chips and burgers.

I Love Lunch returns in 2019.  Well done to this year’s winners and a big thank you to all the businesses that took part.
