BID Police Update - November

The BID's security team have been working tirelessly with the Safer Neighbourhood Team to tackle shoplifters in the area. In the past month they have recovered and returned nearly £26,000 worth of stolen goods and made a number of arrests. In one instance, a man was apprehended after he tried to sell stolen camera equipment in Cash Converters in King Street. Bringing in what appeared to be £5000 worth of equipment, eagle-eyed staff were suspicious when he only wanted £80 for it. Police were called but the suspect fled before they could arrive. After reviewing the CCTV, they recognised the suspect and he was subsequently arrested. SNT officers have managed to track down the owner and are now arranging for the equipment to be returned. Following a car theft in Worlidge Street W6, a male was seen wearing a jacket that matched the one stolen from the vehicle. A timely response by SNT officers ensured that he was arrested and the matter fully investigated. SNT officers arrested a man for fraud after he attempted to use a 'doctored' bank card in EE in Kings Mall Shopping Centre. Officers searched his address and recovered £20,000 worth of ladies wear. The man was released on bail and is currently awaiting charges. A notorious female shoplifter who targeted charity shops in King Street was arrested after staff in the British Heart Foundation challenged her as she was trying to steal items. As she ran away she left her handbag behind, which officers were able to use to trace and arrest her. She was later charged and remanded. A man was arrested and charged after he stole £700 worth of goods from Boots in King Street. The items were recovered and returned. Another male shoplifter was arrested after stealing just under £200 worth of goods from Marks & Spencer. These items were also recovered and returned.
