Safetynet system helps catch Hammersmith shoplifters
The BID police officers have been liaising with our CCTV operator to provide a comprehensive service in defending the BID area from anti-social behaviour and crime using the Safetynet radio system. Nearly 2000 transmissions were sent by Safetynet radios in the BID area in February that were intercepted by our own CCTV operator. Furthermore the number of incidents dealt with by our CCTV operator rose in February with 70 incidents dealt with that resulted in 13 arrests. Of those 13, 8 of the arrests were initiated by the operator and include the arrest of two aggressive shoplifters who ran from police after robbing a King Street fashion store.
They were apprehended after being followed by CCTV around the BID area and the goods returned to the store. Our operator also assisted in a shoplifter attempting to commit acts of fraud in stores along the high street. The shoplifter then entered Kings Mall, where their security team monitored the man as he tried to steal from a fashion retailer. He was promptly caught and arrested.
