Christmas Virtual Reality Cabin coming to Lyric Square
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and with a busy line-up including free festive cinema, a virtual reality cabin, carolling choirs and more, it’s going to be a dazzling December in Hammersmith.
For 2016, HammersmithLondon Business Improvement District (BID) is celebrating everything digital so our Christmas event programme has a very modern feel to it. Partnering up with Riverside Studios, we will be utilising the latest virtual reality (VR) technology for people to experience in Lyric Square.
Step into our special Alpine Cabin and be whisked away on a digital journey where you will be able to wander round New York during the most wonderful time of the year, be turned into an intergalactic rabbit, journey through the Arctic with Greenpeace and join Mickey & Minnie on a tour of Disneyland.
There will be a different experience each day between December 7 -21 so make sure you keep coming back. A competition will also be running during this time; snap a photo of yourself in Lyric Square and post to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #digichristmas for the chance to win a google cardboard headset to watch VR and 360 videos in your own home. The free VR experience will be available between 11.30am – 7pm weekdays, and 11.30am – 6pm on weekends. A fantastic selection of festive flicks will be also shown for free this Christmas, but it’s up to you to decide which ones. As part of its Christmas line-up the HammersmithLondon business improvement district (BID) has installed a FREE pop-up cinema in Kings Mall Shopping Centre called the Hammersmith Movie Hub. We asked the public to vote for their favourite Christmas films, with the top three forming the movie hub’s programme this December. After almost a week of voting, the winners are:
Miracle on 34th Street
Home Alone will be shown at the opening of the Hammersmith Movie Hub on Thursday, December 8th at 6pm, and then on Saturday, December 17th at 11am and 3pm and Wednesday, December 21st at 2pm.
Miracle on 34th Street will be shown on Saturday, December 10th at 11am and 3pm, on Sunday, December 18th at 3pm and on Tuesday, December 20th at 2pm.
Elf will be shown on Sunday, December 11th at 11am and 3pm, on Sunday, December 18th at 11am and on Monday, December 19th at 2pm. The screenings are free but please register for tickets, using this link. Space permitting, there will be additional tickets available at each screening.
This year, Hammersmith will have not one but three 25ft Christmas trees around the town centre. These will not only be illuminating Hammersmith with their sparkling light display, they will also be giving gifts away. Visit the trees after downloading the BID’s FREE E-Privilege Card and receive a special festive message and exclusive Christmas deal straight to your Smartphone. Just get up close and wait for your gift to arrive. The E-Privilege Card is also the perfect companion for your Christmas shopping as it will help you unlock exclusive yuletide offers and fantastic money off deals at Hammersmith’s wide array of shops, restaurants and pubs. So whether you’re buying presents or need a rest after a busy day of shopping the E-Privilege card will guide to where you need to be. Use the free Lyric Square Wi-Fi to download this great shopping friend. Throughout December carolling choristers will be popping up around the town centre and with new lights and three Christmas trees also going up in the area, Hammersmith will have an added injection of yuletide spirit. Organised by the HammersmithLondon Business Improvement District (BID), these initiatives aim to enhance Hammersmith town centre this Christmas, supporting the retail offer and cementing Hammersmith’s reputation as a go-to shopping destination.
